Catholic Inspired Gift Packs
We started a tradition and a fund raiser at Vogel Farms A few years ago. Anyone purchasing a gift pack from us, can request that we donate 10 percent of the proceeds from the sale to St Paul’s of Nampa, St Joes 0f Melba and and St Johns Cathedral in Boise. After a few successful years we introduced our Catholic Inspired gift packs. We spent the better part of the year searching for items produced by Monastery’s, Abbey’s or Convent’s throughout the country. We discovered some wonderful products, made we love and commitment. The following is a list of products we offer and a little history about each one!
Brigittine Monk Fudge and Truffles: In Oregon’s Willametter Valley, The Brigittine Monks of Our Lady of Consolation Priory quietly go about producing some of the most delicious, rich and creamy Fudge and tasty truffles in the world. They use only the best ingredients—including fresh dairy butter, semisweet and bittersweet chocolate, Oregon walnuts, pecans and candied Oregon Cherries. – Brigittine Monk Fudge has received praise from candy experts and critics alike. Now it’s your turn to try this famous, handmade gourmet treat!
Monastery Mustard: The unique premium mustard was developed and is produced by the Benedictine Sisters of Mount Angel, Oregon. The secret recipe for the mustard was passed on for generations before being given to SR Terry Hall and her Benedictine community. The Sister’s primary ministries are serving the poor and homeless at St Joesph Shelter, and offering spiritual sustenance and renewal through Shalom Prayer Center. They also teach , nurse, councel, cook and serve as spiritual directors and chaplains and work as artisans and gardeners.
Mystic Monk Coffee and Tea: The rich coffees and delicate teas are made by the Mystic Monks of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel. it is a cloistered Roman Catholic community founded in the Rocky Mountains near Yellowstone National Park. In the solitude and silence of the mountain wilderness, the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming seek to perpetuate the charism of the Blessed Virgin Mary by living the Marian life as prescribed by the primitive Carmelite Rule and the ancient monastic observance of Carmelite men.
Trappist Preserves: Delicious jams and jellies made by the Trappist Monks at St Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer Mass. This sometimes hard and redeeming work provides for the monks own livelihood and for the care of the poor. In the autumn of 1954 the monks who worked in the Abbey herb garden decided to make a batch of mint jelly. The mint had been abundant that year and they wanted to put it too good use. After a positive response to their mint jelly, the monks soon experimented with various fruits and wines. From these humble beginnings, Trappist Preserves grew into a profitable business which continues to contribute to the Monk’s livelihood.
Hermitage Pantry: John and Candace Tapert belong to the secular branch of the St. Joseph Carmelite Monastery, following the ancient Rule of St Albert. Like the Carmelite priests and sisters, they make promises of obedience, poverty and chastity, pray the liturgy of the Hours and practice silent prayer. Unlike them, they are married and live outside the monastery, simply, in a hermitage of their own construction on five acres near Seattle. They help to support the monastery through the work of their hands.
Redwoods Monastery is a small community of women monastics founded in 1962 from the Cistercian monastery of Nazareth in Belgium. Nestled among the majestic redwoods and Douglas fir of the Lost Coast of Northern California, bordered on one side by the salmon-bearing Mattole River, the sisters of Our Lady of the Redwoods live a simple monastic life in continuity with a tradition that stretches back to 1098 when the Cistercian Order was founded. Five elements characterized the vision of the early Cistercians and continue to shape Cistercian spirituality today: creative fidelity, simplicity, an accent on experience, affectus (the centrality of love) and mysticism. The sisters’ main industry and source of income is their popular creamed honey.
